Ash
Cave - Ohio State Parks
Ash Cave is
located in the Hocking Hills Region of Ohio and only a short drive
from Oakwood Cabins. It is the closest region of the park from the
cabins and is accessible all year around. This recess cave
received its name from the mounds of charred ashes once found
beneath the overhang from hundreds of years of use as a
temporary shelter by both Native Americans and settlers.

The park at
Ash
Cave is open
year-around, but it is closed from dusk to dawn. The seasonal
waterfall is breathtaking beneath the eaves of this huge recess
cave. Hocking Hills State Park holds many annual hikes here
including the Sweethearts' Hike in February, Waterfalls and
Wildflowers Hike in April and Frontier Trail Hike in May. The
paved path to Ash Cave makes it accessible for both wheelchairs
and strollers. Hikers can also continue on for longer hikes to
Cedar Falls and eventually Old Man's Cave. |
